Topic I: Potential Problem Solved With AI

Internet Security and AI
Alief Rama 29/3/2024

The world is run by the internet in this modern day and age as we know it and part of being a respectable digital citizen would be the need to contribute to the ever adapting and improving world that is our internet. Part of the various concerns regarding this would be the threats posed to our private lives and the increasing number of cybercrimes that are committed to an extent. One such issue can be resolved utilizing AI.

Although the concept of artificial intelligence was created by humans in the first place, there are still various issues that can be rather enhanced through the usage of AI. The personal goal I'd set for myself wouldn't be to innovate some new technology utilizing AI, but to enhance current technology that have already exist or potentially would be applicable in enhancing cybersecurity. The following are examples of issues that may potentially be solved or have been:

The concept of having a self-learning and adaptive security measure falls under the tasks that could be completed utilizing AI. Being able to dynamically adjust security measures based on real-time threat intelligence and risk assessments would be one factor. One key to this would be the fact that current AI possesses the ability monitor, analyze, or detect cyberthreats in real-time. (Schmidt, 2024)

I've recently read that current AI is built with the ability to undergo a process called ML (Machine Learning) which enables them to analyze behavioral patterns of various algorithms and take action accordingly. In simpler terms, computer learning is artificial intelligence that allows a computer or system to learn and improve via experience. Instead of explicit programming, machine learning employs algorithms to examine enormous volumes of data, learn from the findings, and then make informed judgments. (Rose, 2023.)

Another great example that could be further improvised utilizing AI would be that of threat detection and prevention. Through the usage of AI algorithms that can analyze vast amounts of data from network traffic, system logs, and user behavior as aforementioned along with Machine Learning to further prevent access of private information and data. Despite that, there are various things I believe the usage of AI on this field can be further improved on. For example, if a sudden surge in data transfer from an internal network to an external server is detected, it may indicate data exfiltration. AI-powered systems can quickly detect such anomalies and trigger appropriate response measures to mitigate the threat. (Texeira, 2023).
